A TRIPLE Linky Post~ {5 for Frunday; Currently; Fontastic Linky}

This is a TRIPLE Linky Post~Five for Frunday, Currently, & my own Fontastic Linky!!

Today I registered for the 2nd Annual TpT Conference!!! I am super excited!  These are the sessions I signed up for:

Last year I went to the conference & didn't bring business cards...NOT a smart move...so today I designed some new ones...with some good advice from my sister...this is what they will look like:...{thought it wise not to display my phone number here!!}

I am requesting prayer from all of those of you who do pray.  My 18 year old stepson {he lived with us full time from age 6 to 15~so I raised him} was born with a congenital heart defect.  He went to Loma Linda about a week and a half ago & it was NOT good.  Tomorrow morning we need to be at Loma Linda at 6:00 AM...it is about an hour & a half away...they will be doing a heart catheter...it is similar to how they do an angiogram...they run a camera in through the artery at the groin area...they will be checking both the 'electrical' & 'plumbing' of his heart...next Monday we will go back for a liver biopsy & a 24 heart monitor...we do not know how soon a follow up appointment will be...my son is anxious & scared...& he is having an extra hard time with this because he will become a father {whoa..went to write NEXT month, but it IS March now!!} THIS month...prayers are SOOOO appreciated!{update:catheter went well...pressures in the heart are better than the doctor expected...now praying the liver biopsy goes well so a heart transplant will NOT be in his near future...probably will be in his future though}

CURRENTLY...It should say "late nights" in Spring Break Plans...but I am not going to go back & remake this...sorry for the typo!

I have LOVED fonts for a VERY long time...I started this blog in 2011 & if you look at the top I describe myself as a Font-a-holic...I am not sure when the obsession hoarding collecting began, but the love has has only grown stronger with time!

I want to begin with Sources of great fonts:

The first place I can remember discovering & purchasing fonts from is still up and running it is ScrapNFonts...as I looked at my order history from them, I saw that my 1st purchase was in the summer of 2005!!  They have great fonts & frequently have $1 sales~they do have a $1 category all of the time...through them I discovered one of my other obsessions loves...Lettering Delights...it is their sister site...for a long time I only purchased fonts...I didn't understand their Alphabets {once I did I was HOOKED...GREAT for the classroom!!!}...LD has commercial licenses available for about $13 & fonts do go on sale multiple times a year for only $1 {non commercial}

When I began blogging I discovered Kevin & Amanda's AMAZING free fonts!!!  They may be used commercially too...

as a matter of fact the 1st 2 things I put in my TpT store...on July 6, 2011...were samples of how each of their fonts look...they have 2 different collections...Scrapbook fonts...&...Fonts for Peas...my samples combined have be downloaded almost 7,000 times!!!...they are free & I don't want to remove them from my store, but here's a little secret for you...I have a much better way now...keep reading! ;-)...

If you have read my blog a all, you know that I adore Mel Lloyd from both Frog Spot & Graphics From the Pond...I have purchased her set of Fonts {which she keep adding to...3 more were added this week!!}...these may be used commercially...she also has some free fonts as well look on her sidebar of her Graphics from the Pond blog...

Now there are several AMAZING font designer who offer their fonts for free for PERSONAL USE ONLY...each of them have licenses you may purchase for single fonts or a lifetime all inclusive license for commercial use...so far I have only been able to afford 6 from my latest obsession love...Kimberly Geswein Fonts..{Look at #1...I get to hear her talk in July!!! :-D}...here are links to 4 great designers fonts...{REMEMBER TO CHECK TOUs WHEN YOU ARE CREATING GOODIES WITH THEM!!}  click on their images to get their fonts.

 {I DO NOT own the commercial license...yet ;-)...it was just the only image I could find to send to you her site}
 A bonus about Darcy is that you can purchase a font of your handwriting...{NOT something I am interesting in...I don't like mine, which is probably part of the reason I am font obsessed love fonts!}

Now that I have shared where to find a bunch of AMAZING fonts...what to do with them??  This is where I hope this Linky kicks in...I would love to hear your Tips for...here are links to font pairings...first from Mel...

Kimberly Geswein is currently doing a series about font pairings...so far you can check here, here, & here for her great advice with examples....also take some time to go through the archives to find more great tips...

Now...for Management of fonts...I used to have literally THOUSANDS of fonts installed on my computer {NOT good for the functioning of your computer}  & then Kimberly Geswein shared about NexusFont & it has changed things for me DRAMATICALLY & I wanted to share a little of the ins & outs of NexusFont with you...as I made sure I had each font in the designer's folder I DELETED it from my computer's system folder~go to control panel~appearance & personalization~then fonts...
I made a couple of short tutorials just to show you how you set up a group & populate it...also how to add tags...then to show you how it is in powerpoint...apparently our computer doesn't have a built in speaker so there is no sound, but hopefully watching it will help you! {I am VERY disappointed in how these tutorials turned out!! :( no time now to try a different option...I will update later!}

{working on updating this now}

My NexusFont Tutorial Can Be Viewed HERE or by clicking on the picture above!

If you have any great sources of fonts, tips for using fonts, or suggestions for management of fonts PLEASE link up...I can't wait to learn from you!
Thanks!

Five for Friday; FANBOYS, Task Card/Mangement, Rock'n the Apple Basket, Lettering Delights, Gypsy

I am so excited about my FANBOYS freebie...it will be a part of the new product I am working on going over Simple, Compound, & Complex sentences!! {Click on the image to find it as a freebie in my TpT store!}

Here's an organization tip that is helping in my classroom....
This tip has helped when I have wanted multiple sets of something & when I find a "#4" on the floor {sometimes the students don't get them ALL put away :-( when cleaning up} we just put it into the matching colored set!  The Snowman Time! is a part of my friend Kelly's Snow Much Math!  & the Simple, Compound, & Complex Task Cards are from Polka Dots in the Panhandle. Click on the covers to find them in their TpT Shops
    Math Centers and Activities for Third Graders - Snow Much MathSimple, Compound and Complex Sentence Task Cards
Are any of your schools going through PBIS?  {Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports}  It is in our district and each school has signs showing their expectations...l LOVE our signs using Rocky, our mascot, ROCK'N our school!...I love saying to kids, "We ROCK the hallway by walking on the right side" & things like that...it helps that everyone is using the same terms..we had to come up with something for our classroom utilizing what we are doing throughout the school...at the bottom is what I did for my classroom...{Lovin' my Kimberly Geshwein fonts!}

I have shared before how much I love Lettering Delights.  Just thought I would share again!  Every Friday Lettering Delights has a freebie!  This is the freebie for this weekend:

Another thing I like about LD is that you can access what you own {including any freebies you have received} anywhere that you have the internet! LD has fonts:

 And Alphabets:

And Doodlebats...read the highlighted section to learn what they are if you don't know what they are:
And so many wonderful graphics sets:
And if you have a Silhouette Cameo, they also have Cut Its to use on it!
LD runs lots of great sales where you can by fonts & alphabets for only $1 & they have coupon codes too!  They are constantly coming out with such great new sets!!!  If you are interested in checking them out I would GREATLY appreciate it if you click on my affiliate button on the bottom right!

Our Community College is putting on the play Gypsy...a friend recommended that Sieanna {my 11 year old} audition for the play...we went two nights in a row for auditions...& she will be playing Baby June!!  I am so proud of her!!!  This is a picture of the BRAND NEW Performing Arts Center & this is where she will get to perform!!  If I thought our lives were busy before....well it just got a whole lot busier!!!

Resources, Resources, Resources!

Hello!  My name is Nancy and I am a blog-a-holic, font-a-holic, resource-hunting-a-olic, and a share-a-holic!  This is my first blog entry and it is likely to pretty long!  I've had so many thoughts bouncing around in my head to share!  I have been collecting blog addresses for several weeks now.  My orginal thought was to create a table with the blog name, url, and what grade the teacher taught, and then give it to my fellow teachers...well...the more I found, the more I had the desire to do the same. So, here it is!
My former teammate Marcie Evans has inspired me so very much through the years!  She is the one who first introduced me to 'blogs'.  This is her former classroom blog. http://www.hopintoroom14.blogspot.com/ I hope you take a look at it!  She had a frog theme and I couldn't come up with a 'theme' for my room.  Then I realized I had a lot of apple stuff that was in my garage since the room it had been in became my husband's office.  I took it all to school and the 'apple basket' was born! Then I created a classroom blog with her help.  This year I haven't updated it at all; we just use it when we go to the computer lab and the students go to the links I instruct them to go to.  Here it is http://www.room15theapplebasket.blogspot.com/ I plan to update it when I get through with all of this!

The first resource I want to share is http://www.proteacher.net/ It is wonderful.  When I first looked at the site I was overwhelmed and left it quickly then Marcie let me in on how to use it...go to your grade level board and that's it!  I have found sooooo many useful resources and ideas there!!!!!  I'm finally a Jr. member although I've been a member since August 2007.  For the first several years I just read and downloaded resources that others had posted. (look for the paperclip it indicates an attachment..worksheet, game, poster, organizational tool etc.)  I finally started posting comments and questions and now I can post attachments too.  Check it out!

The next resource I need to share is Kim Sutton's Creative Mathematics.  She is a true guru in elementary mathematics!  If you ever get a chance to hear her speak or go to one of her conferences don't pass it up!  I have had the opportunity to hear her about a dozen times, at math conferences or going to one of her trainings and EVERY time I have ever hear her I have learned something new.  One of the things she says motivates children are 4 4-letter words: dice (she uses double dice & others!) race, game, and food (just naming something after a food can spark interest!). Check out her site http://www.creativemathematics.com/

Kim Sutton asked Ron Brown many years ago to put some math concepts to music, he did, and as they say the rest is history!  He not only has math music, but other concepts as well!  The kids absolutely LOVE his stuff and it teaches the concepts so well!  Check out his website http://www.intelli-tunes.com/index.php

Whole Brain Teaching is AWESOME!  If you have never checked them out I strongly encourage you to do so!  In December I went to a one day training and it has changed the way I teach!  You can see their videos on teacher tube if your school district blocks youtube.  They used to be referred to as Power Teaching, but change their name to represent what they are sharing more accurately.  The idea is that the more areas of the brain that we actively engage the more learning occurs.  Their techniques also help with classroom management and discipline.  This Saturday, April 9, they are having a live TV broadcast on the web!  It's completely free and you can text in questions to the founder, Chris Biffle.  It is at 9 a.m. PST and here's the link http://www.livestream.com/wholebrainteaching1  Their website has tons of great info and free downloadable ebooks, all they ask is to spread the word!.  I have begun using their 'power pix'
If you have never checked out Beth Newingham's website; it is a MUST VISIT for elementary teachers!  I have no idea how she does it all!  She has many resources avalible on her site. Check it out!

 Lettering Delights is my go to spot for all of the above!  Not only do they have great fonts, they also have 'alphabets'.  Alphabets are the colorful lettering you see throughout this post.  They can be used for bulletin board headings, in worksheets, letters, and forms.  The great thing about Lettering Delights is that you can access your library (everything you've bought or got as a freebie) from any computer that has access to the internet.  This is really helpful when you're working on stuff and home and at school!  You simply choose the alphabet you want to use click the 'try me now' button, type what you want to, save it, and insert it as a picture into word or other programs.  Right now it's Dollar Days where just about everything is just $1!  If you sign up with them you get $40 value of free stuff!  I also like Scrapn'fonts, they also will have freebies and $1 days too.  For free fonts
www.kevinandamanda.com/fonts ,& www.sugarfrogfonts.com   are terrific!  I have also just learned about www.scrappindoodles.com ,   although I haven't purchased any of their products yet.
I wanted to post a sample wordle for you, but I'm just a little frustrated with how to include a google document!  I'll focus on that later!  Trust me that it is worth checkin' out!  There are so many possiblities for using this application.  I am including a link with wordle ideas for the classroom.  When I get google docs figured out I may post some that I have made. WARNING!! Do not let your students at the gallery!! So people wordle things that, shall we say, are VERY inappropriate!  You may want to browse through it for ideas. Here's the link for the ideas www.freetech4teachers.com/2009/06/more-wordle-ideas.html

First Grade teachers, you have just hit the resources lottery jackpot!  There are  many wonderful teacher blogs, but it seems that the vast majority of them are at 1st grade.  The table (which I hopefully will figure out in a moment how to include!) shows the blog name (if it is highlighted I have personally found a resource, idea, link, download or something I feel I can use), web address, grade (if I know), and the 'x' is if I have gone through the whole web site yet.  You can see I have a ways to go!!!  Many of these teachers even offer contests to win some of the things they've made, gift cards to places teachers love, and cards to font & graphics sites!

Here is my table...YEAH figured out how to get google docs in here...therefore the wordle ideas wordle is in that section!!! :)
Now you may be thinking..'I can't keep going to all these sites and checking back constantly to see if there are any updates Well, welcome

In Google Reader you can enter a subscription, when you press that button simply paste in the web address of the blog you are interested in.  Whenever you go to google reader it will let you know if there are any new posts by the author of the blog.  I quickly scroll through the blogs and click the little star next to the post title for those that I want to look at more carefully later or download something from.  It is like a bookmark.  You can also create folders to organize the blogs you are following.  I have one for k, 1st, 2nd, fonts & graphics, and other (some spiritual, inspirational, fibro etc)  You can always go to the blog title at the top click it and it will take you to the actual blog! That way you can see their cute graphics, comment on posts, and see their sidebars.
Here's last resource I'll share today. Teacher pay Teachers; many of the teachers who have blogs sell the wonderful things they make on TpT.  The ones I've looked at seem very resonably priced, and even better (since money is tight) if you search under your grade level and have the price go from least to greatest you can find tons of FREE items.  I found signs, forms, powerpoints and more!

Now I said some of these teachers have contests, these are some that are happening right now:
She has a really cute vacation countdown wall hanger!
 She's giving away a Pirate's Gold unit she created!
She's giving away a Fairy Tale Unit written by Brooke at Primary Perspective!
http://fun-n-first.blogspot.com/2011/03/100-followers-giveway.html?spref=bl
She's giving away 3 Literacy Center Packets!
http://firstgradefactory.blogspot.com/2011/03/first-grade-factory-giveaway-win-100.html
She's giving away $100 Gift Card to Learning is Fun Education Store!!!!
http://pattonspatch.blogspot.com/2011/04/300-followers-and-you-guessed-it.html?spref=bl
She's giving away several units that are also written by Brooke at Primary Perspective!
There may be more out there but I am determined to launch this blog TONIGHT!

A special GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Kristen at Ladybug Resources for the technical help I needed to get this out there!!! :)

Please leave a comment to let me know you were here and what you thought!
